Julie Saffrin
Hailed by authors and critics alike for her insightful and faith-affirming
stories, Julie interweaves subplots and multi-layered characters
into her writing. Her stories carry a message of hope that gives
readers tangible examples of God at work in their lives.
Heralding from Excelsior, Minnesota, Julie is a full-time writer
who divides her time between freelance projects and novel writing.
Her first novel, That Summer Place, is a women’s contemporary
novel awaiting publication.
She is the author of numerous articles, features, and personal
essays. Her essay, The Carpenter, received Honorable Mention in
the 71st
Writer’s Digest Competition .
Her published works include feature articles on evangelist-turned-pastor
Lowell Lundstrom, Minnesota Vikings’ mascot, Joe Juranitch,
worship recording artist Chris Tomlin, Dove award nominee for New
Artist of the Year Sara Groves and eight-time Dove and Grammy award
winner Rebecca St. James. Other articles include publication in
the national EP News, The Christian Reader, Evangel, Minnesota
Christian Chronicle, the Sun-Sailor, Chanhassen Villager and the
Chaska Herald. Her story, Mercy’s Time is featured in the
anthology God
Allows U-Turns, vol. III, A Women’s Journey (Promise Press).
Out of 5,000 entrants for the book Chicken
Soup for the Christian Woman’s Soul, Julie’s
story was selected for publication in this best-selling publication.
She was recently featured in the Excelsior Bay Times.
Julie developed and edited sales and marketing materials for
a Fortune 1000 company and has five years’ experience as editor
and publisher for an association newsletter.
This year’s plans include conducting an on-going creative
writing class, and a Writer-in-Residence program with an Edward
D. Neill Elementary School and Chaska Elementary School.
As Vice President of Membership for the Minnesota
Christian Writers Guild, a forty-five year old
125-member group of highly published writers, Julie is connected
to the core of writers in Minnesota. For continuing education,
she attends seminars and conferences across the country, most
notably, Florida Christian Writers Conference and Mt. Hermon
Christian Writers
Conference. Julie is a CLASS (Christian Leaders, Authors and
Speakers Seminar) graduate and attended CLASS Reunion and CBA
(Christian
Booksellers Association) in Anaheim 2002. She is a member of
the prestigious National
League of American Pen Women.
She lives with Rick, her husband of 23 years, and her three
sons, Sam, 16, Joe, 14, and Jake, 11, where she is often
found cheering
and getting bleacher slivers at baseball, basketball and football
games.
